The Obama Fad - mhwhite63 - 02-01-2009 02:20 PM Is it stupid in here, or is it just me? When I say "here" I'm referring to the United States of America. Wait...no...it isn't me...it actually IS stupid in here. Lemme just expound a bit to the disgust and disdain of the great majority of gentle readers who, no doubt upon reading the title of this post just HAD to check it out a millisecond after their eyes began an uncontrollable roll and a visceral reaction welled up deep in their bellies that relayed a primitive, involuntary message to their brains something akin to, "Oh, I gotta read this racist a-hole's post right now!" That about right? Ok, well buckle up, kiddies. My friends, (I like to use the phrase "my friends" because John McCain overused this phrase thousands of times during his anemic campaign and it pisses liberals off.) My friends, one of the things you'll learn about me quickly through my writing is that I'm kinda partial to FACTS. I don't depend on HOPE as a strategy. I don't hitch my wagon to meaningless campaign slogans like "Change We Need" because I'm angry with the previous administration - which I'm not. I don't plant a campaign sign in my yard just because a candidate happens to be black. Well, half black. And it's high time we had a (half) black president around these parts! I don't have a pretty, little genie lamp to rub for my 3 wishes and though I DO have a very nice pair of manly balls, neither one of them is crystal. No, I'm not driven by irrational emotion, a "feeling" I get when I see pretty faces, or hear pretty words delivered in a charismatic and (c'mon, you gotta agree with me on this point) more than a slightly evangelical, preachy and decidedly MLK tone, timbre and pace. Obama knows how to speak very eloquently and how to effectively connect with people's emotions. He's very, very good at it. There are many people like him in America and the world. Usually, they end up delivering sermons on Sunday mornings, not running the country. No, my friends (there he goes again) I'm a firm believer in gathering real information, proven data and sound facts before I develop conclusions and judgments and run off half-cocked to the election booth where I can cast my ballot for the best-looking and "coolest" guy or gal in the race. (Oh yeah...forgot to mention that along with facts, you get the added bonus of a delicious dose of sarcasm every now and again.) Yum! So, here's where that stupidity I mentioned comes in. I see this Obama thing as a kind of fad. The cool thing to do. The hip person to be right now is an Obama supporter. I mean, those bumper stickers are really bitchin'! It's cool to vote for a black person. It's cutting edge to put someone in the white house who has very little or no executive experience. Who cares? He's DREEEAAAMMMY!!! And, he sounds like MLK...BONUS! Look, I'm a sucker for a pretty face as much as the next guy. In fact, I'm glancing over at my 8x10, glossy, signed, color photo from Ann Coulter as I write this...but, hey that doesn't mean she belongs in the White House...though I actually DO believe she'd be a better President than Obama, but I digress. The sad thing about America is that in general, we're just very simple-minded folks who really don't have time to read, much less understand The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, The Economist, US News & World Report, Business Week, or anything that's actually fact-based and informative. That crap's BORRRING!!! No..We're too busy checking out People Magazine to see what gown Sarah Jessica Parker wore to the Oscars...or Us magazine to see which poor Hollywood schmuck has to endure spending time with Paris Hilton or Brittany Spears in order to get his 15 minutes...or ESPN magazine to see which overrated, overpaid, and over hyped steroid-shooting pro athlete just beat the crap out of his girlfriend and shot some gangstah at the local strip club. Hey man, that shit's IMPORTANT! Worse still, the same lemmings who get off on this kind of shallow, superficial crap are the ones (if they are even AWARE of daily news programs) who actually buy into Wolf Blitzer's daily "Who's to Blame?" commentary on CNN...(you know, Communist News Network.) Doesn't he realize George Bush is to blame for everything??? Or, they're the ones who love to watch Kieth Oberman spew his unabashedly biased, liberal BS over on MSNBC...(the More Socialism Now Broadcasting Company.) Or, they might one of those old-school lemmings, who promptly at 6pm switch over to CBS (the Communist Broadcasting System) just like dad did back in the day to see Katie Couric simultaneously ambush Sarah Palin and kiss Hillary's ass. Gee, I sure do miss Dan Rather's fair and balanced approach to reporting the news. Hang on my friends, I just vomited a little in my mouth. Only in a country so swept up in this kind of superficial, shallow and purposeful manipulation of information to actually be MIS-informative, could a fad like Obama even get started. By the way...who's ahead on American Idol? The Obama fad will eventually wane...like pet rocks, mood rings and "Shit Happens" bumper stickers. Reality with settle in around him soon enough and he'll face competing with the next "Survivor" series for the attention of the American public. In the meantime, he'll face tremendous challenges concerning the economy, our national security and our democratic and capitalistic way of life. Challenging enough in themselves...infinitely more difficult for someone who's depended on his flowery rhetoric and a cute smile to get where he is. I have hope that he'll lead us well, but I don't hold onto hope as a strategy like those that put him in office do. Obama and the blind faith support he garnered to put him in office is a passing fad. America has continued to dumb itself down and I fear it will continue to do so until we are no longer the clear-cut leader of the world. Like John Wayne once said, "Life's tough, it's tougher if you're stupid." Unfortunately, I fear life is going to get very, very tough for Americans in the coming years. I have to run for now. It's time for the Maury show. |
