PC turns 40 years old today

Posted on December 9th, 2008 by fizzle in Current Events

Thats right! 40 years ago today, the first personal computer ever to be seen was unveiled to the eyes of a crowd more shocked than when Noah parted the red sea, or whatever it was he did. An astronomical 1,000 people showed up on December 8th, 1968 in San Fransisco, and rumor has it, at least 3 of them were not virgins. This wacky new device boasted an interactive screen, and it even had a manual movement device, which they eerily called a “Mouse”, presumably because it was connected via a wire..and…it looked like a tail? Spam sales are up in America

Posted on December 6th, 2008 by fizzle in Current Events

And not the type of spam you’d think we’d be talking about here at our mostly tech-related website. No, in fact we’re talking about the pseudo-food seen here, not the annoying links for v!@gr@ or c!4l1s that you find in your spam box all the time, and once in a while one will sneak through to your inbox. No, not that spam. Here are the facts: Sales of Spam®©™ are on the up, at least in the United States, as of recently. (more…)

Al Qaeda Terrorist Lego - Not such a great gift idea?

Posted on December 4th, 2008 by fizzle in Current Events

islamic extremist terrorist lego

Here’s an idea. Get your 7 year old one of these new fancy Masked Islamic Terrorist lego’s to show how badass the space policeman lego figure can be in the fight against terrorism. Who knows, maybe the guy with a feather on his chest will be the one that eventually captures Osama Bin Laden in your child’s Lego fantasies. Or going one step further into your son or daughter’s inevitably fucked up head, they can stage a massive battle on par with west side story meets Broken Arrow meets Schindlers List with the nazi action figures, complete with SS symbol on their little tiny lego armbands.

Well, one company, BrickArms, who is not in any way affiliated with Lego, has made this and more possible with their new line of “What the fuck were they thinking designing this prototype?” lego-style toys, just in time for the holiday season and time for you to definitely, definitely not buy.

Lawmakers in our nations capital, Washington, DC are considering options to monetize on the inauguration of our first African American President, who will be inaugurated as the 44th president in January 2009. Wal-mart worker trampled to death in Black Friday stampede

Posted on November 30th, 2008 by fizzle in Current Events

Black friday shopping is a tradition for some people. Some of those people take it seriously, and camp out at stores like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc, just as soon as they finish their turkey on Thanksgiving. Some people don’t take it seriously, some just say to themselves “hey, these guys have a 1TB hard drive on sale for $100, thats a pretty damn good deal, and I want it!”. So they take themselves to the line on Thursday night or even early Friday morning, and wait. And wait. And wait some more, for that time that eventually comes when they open up the doors and let you in to fend for yourself grabbing the latest technologies at the lowest prices, or grabbing a 12 pack of your favorite soft drink for damn near free. MPAA, Now with Trojans

Posted on July 5th, 2007 by fizzle in Current Events

Don’t get caught up in the Motion Picture Association of America’s (MPAA) latest sting. Media Defender, a company which does the dirty work for the MPAA, has been caught setting up ‘dummy’ websites in an attempt to catch those who download copyrighted videos - entrapment comes to mind.

The site, MiiVi.com, complete with a user registration, forum, and “family filter”, offers complete downloads of movies and “fast and easy video downloading all in one great site.” But that’s not all; MiiVi also offers client software to speed up the downloading process. The only catch is, after it’s installed, it searches your computer for other copyrighted files and reports back.

ZeroPaid, acting on a tip from The Pirate Bay, found MiiVi to be registered to Media Defender using a whois search. Shortly after, the registrar information was changed, but the address still reflects Media Defender’s address at 2461 Santa Monica Blvd., D-520 Santa Monica, CA 90404.

Not 10 hours after the site was found to be registered to Media Defender, the site went dead. There’s no telling how long it was up; however, the domain was registered on February 8, 2007.

Perhaps Media Defender won’t use its own name on the registrar the next time around, but it just goes to show the lengths at which the MPAA is willing to go, to fight piracy.
